ENDA

ENDA is Tunisia’s leading MFI and
has had an important impact on women
and the urban poor in Tunisia.
Founded in 1990 and providing
microcredit since 1995, ENDA has
been a pioneer in the country,
reaching over 27,000 active clients
with a gross loan portfolio of
nearly US $9 million. ENDA is one of
the few MFIs in the region that is
financially self-sustainable.
In 2005, ENDA won the
Tunisian President’s award for
promoting family as part of the
country’s celebration of the 57th
anniversary of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights. ENDA
plans to continue its courageous
work in improving the livelihoods of
Tunisian households and its goal is
serve 100,000 families by 2009.
ENDA formed a relationship with the
Initiative in June 2003. ENDA
received a guarantee in the amount
of US $375,000 that was leveraged 2x
to secure a local currency loan in
the amount of US$750,000; this
guarantee set a new precedent for
leverage within Tunisia.
