Progress out of Poverty Tool (PPI)

The Initiative is helping MFIs reach and measure their social mission of reducing poverty and empowering women through a innovative tool developed by the Grameen Foundation. The Progress out of Poverty Index (PPI) is a management and measurement tool that helps MFIs better determine their needs, effectively identify and target the poor, and measure how quickly clients move out of poverty and what are the key reasons for this. The PPI is a unique composite of easy-to-collect, country-specific, non-financial indicators that include key proxies to measure living conditions. These proxies are derived from either the country’s national household survey or the country-specific World Bank Living Standards Measurement Survey. They are designed to easily enable MFIs to accurately and practically measure their clients poverty levels and to improve their products and services accordingly.

The Initiative plans on helping its partners integrate the PPI tool into their management and to provide trainings on how to use it and more effectively attain their social mission.
