Mifos

 

The Initiative is providing important IT assistance in the region; weak management information systems (MIS) are a major challenge to MFIs in their ability to rapidly and efficiently analyze critical client data. Ensuring the safety and protection of client information, too, is vital as MFIs rapidly expand and need reliable and speedy systems to process data.

 

The Initiative is finding effective solutions to MFI IT needs and, where appropriate, is assisting in the adoption of Mifos, an exciting open-source MIS developed by Grameen Foundation’s Technology Center. Mifos is unique in that its free and open source code enables MFIs to easily engage IT resources and customize Mifos to their needs so that it can grow and evolve along with MFIs and their changing products and services. Mifos has a web-based user interface and ensures that all transactions are entirely secure.

 

With the Initiative’s support of Mifos and IT assistance in its adaptation to certain MFIs, the Initiative is working to reinforce risk management in the MENA region and to assist MFIs in utilizing their MIS for not only storing data, but in utilizing it in a strategic way in order to more efficiently reach the poor.
