Grameen-Jameel supports its MFI partners by delivering a suite of customized financial and non-financial products and services. Grameen-Jameel provides financing through its US $50 million Grameen-Jameel Guarantee Fund and US $ 5M direct loan fund. Products and services are divided into four categories as follows:

 
 
 
 
 

Financing

 

Partial Credit Guarantees1: Grameen-Jameel guarantees expand access to local commercial markets for MFIs, with the following key features:


- Guarantees provided by Grameen-Jameel are US Dollar in the form of a Letter of Guarantee (LG) or a Standby Letter of Credit (SBLC), which are liquid with funds available against first demand. Minimum guarantee is $100,000 and maximum is $5,000,000, extended up to 5 years.
- The guarantee is used to leverage local currency financing by a local commercial bank for loan portfolio expansion (not working capital).MFI eligibility is subject to the following minimum criteria and conditional upon transactional due diligence and investment committee approval:
In operation for at least three years with full financial statements; at least the last two years professionally audited.
Size: At least 10,000 clients or loan portfolio greater than US$2,500,000.
Mission to serve the poor demonstrated by at least one of the following:
     - Awards and/or industry reputation
     - Impact study (internal or external
     - Low average loan size vs. in-country peers
Portfolio at risk greater than 30 days < 5%
High percentage of female clients
Near or above full Operational Self-Sufficiency
     

Direct loan: Grameen-Jameel loans provide direct lending for microfinance institutions, with the following key features:


- Minimum loan amount is $50,000 and maximum is $1,000,000, extended up to 5 years.
- The loan is limited to finance the activities of the MFI in terms of portfolio funding.

MFI eligibility is subject to the following minimum criteria and conditional upon transactional due diligence and investment committee approval:
In operation for at least two years with full financial statements; at least one year professionally audited.
Not having or having limited access to commercial loans
Size: typically between 10,000 and 35,000 clients or loan portfolio between US $2,500,000 and US $ 5,000,000.
Mission to serve the poor
Portfolio at risk greater than 30 days < 5%
High percentage of female clients

Human Capital Management Tools: In 2009, Grameen-Jameel introduced HCM to enable microfinance institutions to better manage and plan for human resources challenges and to help MFIs align their business and human capital management strategies so that each is reinforcing the institution’s ability to further its mission and achieve sustainability. The Human Capital Management Assessment is designed to:
- Identify the current state of human capital management practices
- Identify the gaps between these current practices and what is needed to drive business strategy
- Develop a roadmap of priorities to align HCM practices to business strategy

Microfinance Loan Officer E-Learning Course: An E-Learning microfinance course for loan officers, which aims to build the skills necessary to manage the relationship between MFI staff and borrowers. Available on CDs and online, the course is offered in English and Arabic including video clips and audio narrative.

Loan officer E-learning Objective: To provide quality training for loan officers carrying out the key role in Microcredit to raise standards for microfinance loan officer training.

An E-learning training course for loan officers, which is:
- New training course Online or on CD with easy access from any location
- For all Loan Officers working in microfinance
- In English & Arabic
- Interactive - Learning is by doing, watching, listening and reading

MFI Exposure Visits: Grameen-Jameel helps facilitate visits for its partners to other MFIs throughout the world that are renowned practitioners and innovators in a particular operational area that the MFI wishes to develop.

Grameen-Jameel Arab Dialogue: The Dialogue is an occasion to visit Grameen Bank and gain an in-depth view of the operations and methodologies that have lead to its success in providing large-scale microfinance services to some of the world’s poorest people.

 
 
 
 

The Corporate Goverance and Risk Management:

 

 

In order to lead microfinance institutions to greater heights to enhance the organization.The Corporate Governance and Risk Management Handbook for Microfinance Institutions(English Version).(Arabic Version).*(French Version) to help revise traditional habits and principles of corporate leadership and risk management. This manual was adapted from an international handbook for the analysis of the governance of microfinance institutions written on behalf of CERISE, and developed by Grameen-Jameel in cooperation with a number of international and regional industry leaders to specifically provide MFIs with a framework to proactively address the main challenges and key risks pertaining to corporate governance that are commonly faced in the region. This Handbook is the first of its kind in the Arab world, with real case studies drawn from the microfinance sector in the region. The manual is available in three languages: Arabic, English & French and delivered to microfinance institutions in an interactive workshop customized to assist the institution to assess current corporate governance and risk management functions, identify gaps and develop a strategy for strengthening corporate governance and risk management at various organizational levels. Finance, Accounting and Operation Support:
 

 

SEEP FRAME Tool (© SEEP Network) Training: Basic and advanced training in the completion of the SEEP FRAME Tool for reporting on and conducting financial and operational analysis of MFI performance.

Business Planning Workshop: A guided exercise to assist MFIs in the development of a three or five-year business plan, from mission, and vision to markets and growth, organizational expansion and development, capital requirements, and financial and operational projections.

Corporate Governance, Internal Controls, Risk Management: Customized Interactive Corporate Governance Workshop: A customized, guided, interactive program to assist MFIs in assessing current corporate governance. The program helps MFIs identify gaps and develop a strategy for strengthening corporate governance at various organizational levels.

Social Performance Management – Progress out of Poverty Index™ (PPI™)2 The PPI is an objective client poverty assessment and targeting tool that provides client poverty level data, which enables MFIs to manage social performance. Grameen-Jameel offers training and support to implement the PPI and to leverage the tool to help achieve social performance objectives.
